Big Light Off

Lighting plan · one room

Send me a photo of your room. I’ll send back the plan.

Reading a guide and knowing what to do in your room are different problems. Your room has one outlet in the wrong place, a window facing the wrong way, and a ceiling fixture you are not allowed to remove. A plan solves that room, not a room in general.

How it works

Three steps, and one of them is mine.

  1. 01

You send two or three photos of the room with the lights on, and one line about what it is for — sleeping, working, both.

  2. 02

I send back a plan within 48 hours: where each light goes, what colour temperature, what height, and the exact shopping list with prices — usually three items, usually under $80 total.

  3. 03

You ask me anything for two weeks after. If the plan does not work in your room, you pay nothing. I would rather refund you than argue.

No payment up front. I look at the photos first and tell you honestly if a $10 bulb would fix it — in which case I say so and charge you nothing. Payment by Interac e-Transfer once you have the plan, not before.

What you actually get

Not advice. A shopping list for your exact room.

Every plan is built around what you can’t change — the rental ceiling fixture, the single outlet, the bad window. Three light sources, all below eye level, all warm. That part never changes. Where they go, in your room, is the work.

Who writes this

One person, one obsession, no test lab.

Big Light Off is written by Vincent, from Montreal. I am not a lighting designer and I do not run a testing lab. What I know is colour temperature, placement, and layering — which is physics and habit, not taste, and it is the part that actually changes a room.

A service I am paid for keeps me honest in a way an affiliate commission never will. That is the whole reason this page exists.
